Abstract
Lime is a wonderful, breathable, elastic, healthy, durable, and easily-recyclable construction material, used as a binder for 7000 years all over the world until cement replaced it in the 1950s. This lecture critically examines the material- its behaviour and its practice- and considers its place in the future of architecture.

Malvika Mehta is an architect. Encountering the problems of quality, consistency and cost when working with lime, she was inspired to set up the enterprise MLIME in 2019, to engineer, produce and provide high quality and cost-effective lime-based materials for new and old buildings. MLIME reimagines lime as the construction material for the future. Malvika received her Bachelor’s in Architecture from the School of Planning and Architecture, Delhi in 2014.
